Been a very testing last 2 to 3 weeks for my family with everyone falling sick turn-by-turn.
Suhani picked up viral fever the week before Diwali. With all the dengue and chikun guniya in the air, we were scared. Without delay we took her to Dr. Thomas at Manipal Hospital on old airport road, Bangalore. He soon found a like minded personality in Priyanka as they discussed Philanthropy or the lack of it in India. This was while we waited for his nurse to find a new stethoscope after he broke the one he had. Apparently this was the second he broke that day and the third during the week. Suhani soon recovered in a few days to let us all celebrate Diwali.
In hindsight that might have not been a great idea. All the smoke, noise and pollution only made her sick a second time. This time with bacterial infection and a limp in her walk sending us googling for all sort of possibilities [septic artherties, bone infection.. etc]. Dreading the long traffic ridden journey to Manipal Hospital, we consulted Dr. Akram at the Apollo clinic at Bellandur. A man of few words, unlike Dr. Thomas, he administered antibiotics for the next 5 days and asked Suhani to stay awake from "junk" food including her favourite chocolate. Not only did she follow his advice seriously but ensured that all of us at home were reminded daily about the ill healths of junk food :).
It didn't take too long for the next casualty - Priyanka was down with high fever, throat infection and severe fatigue & body pain. Another couple of days later, Yohaan was down sick with high fever as well. After another day I too joined them. As we sick parents struggled to barely keep ourselves caring for our kids, they thankfully recovered from their fever. However, the joy was shortlived as the next day both of them complained about ear pain one by one. Dr. Akram confirmed ear infections and both were administered antibiotics. Suhani did well not to have fever while Yohaan continued to have high fever and pain through the next few days. Thankfully as I write, both of them seem to have recovered, so has Priyanka. I am still struggling with body aches, fatigue and a sore throat. But I'll take that. The kids have lost some weight over the last few weeks and I hope they soon do well.
Its been a long time since we've been all sick and of the worst kind. Can't remember ever missing work for this long due to sickness. Also the joint pains are just getting unbearable - maybe its the Bangalore virus or maybe its just me getting old.
